In the words of John McClane, “Welcome to the party, pal!” (Top 5 Christmas movie)
This has been a long time coming. Some of you on Facebook may have considered giving up on this site actually launching (for the second time). Orrrrr, maybe you didn’t care either way. It’s okay, it’s here now. Better late than never.
I thought a little background would be in order. First, as you will soon find out, I’m not a writer. I don’t have a background in politics (professionally). I’m not an academic. I’m a regular joe with some technical skills and a lot of frustration about where our country is headed. I think discussion is important and right now social media sites are not working. Plain and simple, Twitter is a cesspool. It shocks me that we still have people and companies who put value on the feedback they get there. It’s just a bunch of bickering, 280 characters at a time. Facebook is a great place to have a meaningful policy discussion in between pictures of your aunt Sue’s cats and a relentless stream of ads. Of course, anything that falls outside of the approved narrative gets squashed by the censors anyway. Not much is actually getting accomplished.
The short version of this story is that I wanted a community for regular people that was part social, part discussion, part blog/news/opinion, and whole lot of “stop complaining about it and get out there and do something.” Great conversations mean nothing if it doesn’t lead us to action. Voting isn’t enough. So, one of the primary goals of the site is to turn all of the talk (screaming, head exploding, ranting, raving, frustration, anger, etc.) into everyday actions. Like everyone, I feel like my individual voice doesn’t make much of a difference, but what if we got organized and I was one of dozens, a few hundred, or thousands? Recent events in Virginia have shown us that when people come together, change WILL happen.
Anyway, look around, post some stuff, have some fun and we’ll see where this thing goes.
Remember, you are not alone.
Courage is contagious.
